As pirâmides do planalto de Gizé / The pyramids from Giza's plateau

A pirâmide de Kufu, ou pirâmide de Cheops, é a maior e mais antiga das três pirâmides do planalto de Gizé. Também conhecida como a Grande Pirâmide, tem 230m de base e 147m de altura (originalmente).
Ao dia de hoje, a apesar de ser a mais antiga, esta é a pirâmide que se encontra melhor conservada. A sua altura e grandeza faz-nos sentir bem pequeninos! É realmente uma das grandes construções feitas pelo homem, que desafiam as leis do tempo.

Kufu's pyramid, or Cheops' pyramid, is the biggest and the oldest of the three pyramids placed in Giza's plateau. Also known as the Great Pyramid, it has 230m at the base and is 147m high (originaly).
Still today, and in spite of being the oldest, this pyramid is the one in best shape. We can definitly feel very small when looking at this amazing construction that stands to defy the laws of time.

Dentro da Grande Pirâmide foram encontradas duas embarcações, que teriam como propósito serem usadas pelo Faraó na sua vida eterna para se deslocarem ao aos seus locais favoritos. Estas embarcações estão a ser recontruídas na traseira da Grande Pirâmide, junto às pirâmides mais pequenas, destinadas às rainhas e à mãe do Faraó.

Inside the Great Pyramid were found two vessels, which had the purpose to be used by the Pharaoh in his eternal life to travel to his favorite places. These vessels are being assembled at the back of the Great Pyramid, near to the smaller pyramids, meant for the queens and the mother of Pharaoh.







A segunda maior pirâmide deste planalto de Gizé é a pirâmide de Khafre, ou também conhecida como pirâmide de Chephren. Esta pirâmide conserva ainda no vértice uma parte do revestimento calcário inicial. Khafre, filho de Kufu para quem foi feita a Grade Pirâmide, não construiu uma pirâmide maior que a de seu pai por respeito. No entanto, recorreu a uma elevação da quota do terreno para que, apesar de ser menor, parecesse por vezes do mesmo tamanho ou até maior do que a Grande Pirâmide, dependendo do ângulo de visão.
Apesar de conservar ainda parte do revestimento calcário, esta pirâmide não se encontra tão bem conservada como a Grande Pirâmide, notando-se já algumas falhas nas arestas.

The second largest pyramid of the Giza Plateau is the Pyramid of Khafre, or also known as the Pyramid of Chephren. This pyramid still retains the apex part of the original limestone flooring. Khafre, son of Kufu for whom the Grade Pyramid was made, didn't built a bigger pyramid than his father out of respect . However, he resorted to a rise in the share of the land .This way, although his pyramid was minor, it would sometimes appeared the same size or even bigger than the Great Pyramid, depending on the viewing angle.
Although still retaining part of the limestone flooring, this pyramid is not as well preserved as the Great Pyramid, noting already some flaws on the edges.

A terceira e mais pequena das pirâmides é a pirâmide de Menkaure, ou pirâmide de Mykerinus. Esta pirâmide tem de base 109m e tem de altura 66m (originalmente). De entre as três é a pirâmide que se encontra em pior estado, sem querer com isto dizer que esteja em más condições.
Menkaure preferiu fazer o revestimento da sua pirâmide em granito, diferenciando-se assim das anteriores construções nas quais se utilizara a pedra calcária. No entanto, por se tratar de uma pedra mais pesada, cedo a pirâmide perdeu o revestimento, tendo apenas junto à base ainda alguns vestígios do revestimento em granito.

The third and smallest of the pyramids is the Pyramid of Menkaure, or Pyramid of Mykerinus. This pyramid's base is 109m and is 66m tall (originally). Among the three is the pyramid that is in worse shape .
Menkaure preferred to do the finishing of his pyramid with granite, thus differing from previous constructions in which  limestone had been used. However, because it is a heavier stone, the pyramid lost its finish early , with only some vestiges of granite near the base coat.
